Private and Semi-private Lessons
Private lessons are available for beginners through freestyle level skaters. Students benefit greatly from private lessons. Intensive high quality one-on-one instructions help students learn and polish their skills with greater progression, which will help the skater pass the figure skating levels faster! Your child will have the opportunity to learn the ice skating skills and put them together for a performance at ice skating shows, recitals and competitions like the ones we all know and see on TV!
Semi-private lessons are available for beginners through freestyle level skaters. Students benefit from semi-private lessons in many ways. Children can make new friends and have more fun while they train with their peers. When kids have fun, they show more interest and engagement, therefore, they develop their skills faster! There is also good value for the parents when 2 or 3 skaters skate together and share the cost.
Off-Ice Training
Off-ice training (floor exercises) is an important part of figure skating. Many skaters and coaches practice it, but parents may not always know what it involves. Simply put, it builds the strength, balance, and flexibility needed to perform better on the ice.
Why Train Off-Ice?
Figure skating is one of the most demanding sports, requiring strength, flexibility, and endurance. Off-ice training helps skaters develop:
- Core Strength & Stability – Strong abs and back muscles are key for jumps, spins, and balance.
- Balance – Most skating is done on one foot; off-ice drills improve body awareness and control.
- Strength & Power – Strong muscles mean higher jumps, longer spins, and greater endurance.
- Flexibility – Essential for spirals, spins, jumps, and preventing injuries.
Why Learn on the Floor First?
It’s easier and safer to master skills like jumps and spins on solid ground before trying them on slippery ice. Off-ice warmups are also critical since skaters only get a few minutes of on-ice warmup before competitions.
How Often?
The amount of off-ice training depends on each skater’s level and goals. Competitive skaters train more often, but all skaters benefit. Bottom line: off-ice training builds the strength, flexibility, and consistency needed for success.
Dance and Ballet
Strong skating begins with strong movement. At Elite Figure Skating Academy, we integrate dance and ballet training into our programs to help skaters develop the grace, strength, and musicality essential for success on the ice.
Why Dance & Ballet Matter in Skating:
- Posture & Alignment – Ballet builds core strength and body control, improving balance and elegance on the ice.
- Musicality & Expression – Dance teaches skaters how to interpret music, adding artistry and performance quality to their programs.
- Flexibility & Strength – Stretching and conditioning exercises improve jump height, spin positions, and overall skating stamina.
- Choreography Skills – Dance foundations give skaters the tools to bring choreography to life, connecting movement with emotion.
What We Offer:
- Classical ballet training from professional instructors with performance backgrounds
- Off-ice dance classes tailored specifically for figure skaters
- Cross-training in contemporary and performance dance styles to enhance artistry
- Opportunities to apply dance skills directly into skating programs and recitals
The Result:
Our skaters develop not only the athletic skills to master jumps and spins but also the artistry that sets great performers apart. Dance and ballet training create skaters who are strong, expressive, and unforgettable on the ice.
Tests and Certificates
Our academy offers official U.S. Figure Skating (USFS) Moves in the Field and Free Skate tests. These certifications are highly valued for college applications and provide a lifelong professional credential—you can teach skating anywhere in the world with no need for recertification. Even after a long break, you can return to the ice and continue teaching.
This profession offers flexibility:
- Parents: Create your own schedule and spend more time with your children.
- College students: Earn income independently while studying.
- Graduates: Have a reliable profession while waiting for career opportunities.
- Full-time professionals: Enjoy a rewarding career sharing the sport you love.
Why Testing Matters
USFS tests form the foundation of a skater’s development, determining competition level and progress. Skaters begin with Learn to Skate USA levels, then advance to official USFS tests.
When to Test?
Skaters progress through Learn to Skate USA levels, then advance to official U.S. Figure Skating test levels (Pre-Preliminary through Senior). These tests determine competition eligibility.
Learn to Skate USA Levels:
- Snowplow Sam 1–4 (for ages 6 and under)
- Basic Skills 1–6
- Pre-Free Skate
- Free Skate 1–6
Official U.S. Figure Skating Test Structure:
- Pre-Preliminary
- Preliminary
- Pre-Juvenile
- Juvenile
- Intermediate
- Novice

Competitions
Figure skating competitions give athletes the opportunity to showcase their skills, artistry, and dedication on the ice. Events are organized at many levels—from local club competitions to U.S. Figure Skating qualifying events, and even international championships. Skaters are judged on a combination of technical elements (such as jumps, spins, and footwork) and artistic performance, with programs choreographed to highlight both athletic ability and creativity.
Competitions are also an important part of a skater’s development. They provide valuable experience performing under pressure, building confidence, and learning how to manage nerves and expectations. Each test passed and competition entered helps skaters progress through the official U.S. Figure Skating levels, preparing them for more advanced opportunities.
Our Academy’s Competition Training
At Elite Figure Skating Academy, we prepare skaters to excel in these competitive settings. Training includes technical mastery, custom choreography, and simulated competition experiences that mirror the atmosphere of real events. Our coaches also focus on mental readiness—teaching skaters how to stay focused, confident, and composed under pressure.
Whether you’re preparing for your first local showcase or aiming for national recognition, our competition training program ensures you step onto the ice ready to perform your very best.
Shows, Recitals and Community Events
At Elite Figure Skating Academy, we believe skating is not only about training and competition but also about sharing the joy of performance and celebrating our skating community. Throughout the year, we host exciting shows, recitals, and special events where skaters of all ages can shine on the ice and connect with family, friends, and the community.
Signature Events Include:
- Hershey Bears Games – Our skaters perform during select Hershey Bears hockey games, bringing energy and artistry to the big arena stage.
- Spring & Winter Recitals – Seasonal showcases where skaters demonstrate the skills they’ve developed, from beginners to advanced athletes, in front of a supportive audience.
- Halloween Show & Parade – A fun-filled event with costumes, themed performances, and a festive parade for skaters and families.
